Intel Out-Of-Band Manageability App for Azure

Out-Of-Band (OOB) Manageability allows administrators to remotely perform actions such as power up, power down, system updates and more on network assets or edge devices. Using this capability allows IT professionals save a lot of time by avoiding physical presence to perform OOB operations.

This application provides a method to Azure developer to extend their IoT Solutions to include OOB Manageability. Also referred as User OOB Application for Azure IoT, it is a microservice that extends Open Active Management Technology Cloud Toolkit (Open AMT Cloud Toolkit) with Azure IoT Services such as Event Handler, Device Management SDK and SQLite Database.

Deployed, on the cloud, the Server module listens to any new edge devices connected to Azure IoT Hub and initiates client setup to enable call home. The type and status of edge devices can be displayed through Power BI along with other use case Telemetry.

The server app is paired with client module on the edge device that not only aids with cloud connectivity but also aids the app via IoT Hub to execute commands to perform the check if the underlying hardware support IntelĀ® vPro Technology. The client module can be downloaded to the edge device through separate docker pull command,

docker pull intel/user-oob-client-for-azure

For detailed documentation of OOB flow, please refer to Out-of-Band tutorial.
